20 May The 8th Annual Tweed Run
On the 14th May, hundreds of riders took to their bikes in their sartorial best for the 8th Annual Tweed Run
The Tweed Run is a metropolitan bicycle ride with a bit of style. They have been held in London, NYC and Tuscany. We delight in a huge number of cyclists take to the streets in their best outfits, and cycle through the city’s iconic landmarks.
Along the way, stopping for a tea break and a picnic stop, which usually ends with a bit of a jolly knees-up!
Naturally proper attire is expected. The term “overdressed” does not exist in The Tweed Run vocabulary. Tweed suits, plus fours, bowties, and jaunty flat caps are all encouraged. There are highly sought after Best Dressed Man and Best Dressed Woman prizes. Suggested attire: woollen plus fours, harris tweed jackets, fair isle jumpers, alpaca coats, merino wool team jerseys; cycling skirts and perhaps a sporty cycling cape for the ladies, cravats or ties for gentlemen, and a sneaky hip flask of sustinence for afterwards. Advising a bowler hats a spot more aerodynamic than top hats!
Just in case it rains, a sturdy mac or cape might not go amiss rather than a brolly!
We are encouraged to dust off our vintage velocipede for the ride; there are also prizes awarded for Best Vintage Bicycle. If your bike isn’t quite a classic, you can alway try your hand at the Best Decorated Bicycle competition. And there is also their world-famous Best Moustache prize too.
Afternoon tea is one of life’s great luxuries and enjoyed along the ride, and when the evening draws in riders enjoy their well earned al fresco supper usually on a colourful blanket.
It really is a site to behold, whether you come along to watch or dare to dress to impress…
Hope to see you next year…..
